2007 - the Society's Golden Jubilee Year

2007 is a very special year for the Society. 50 years ago this year Alan Bloom founded the Hardy Plant Society, along with Arthur Hellyer, Will Ingwersen and John Sambrook. They were concerned that many hardy perennials had become difficult to obtain and hoped to reverse this trend and promote knowledge and appreciation of these plants.

How we are marking our 50th Anniversary

  • A special 50th anniversary edition of the HPS Journal (The Hardy Plant).

  • The Annual Lecture Day and AGM focusing on both the past 50 years and the future.

  • The launch of a new website

  • Local Group members' events throughout the year.

  • The launch of the 50th Anniversary Small Bursary Scheme to support students working on a topic relevant to the society's aims of stimulating interest in and knowledge of hardy herbaceous plants.
