Saturday 30th June 2012
Hosted by the HPS Hertfordshire Group
The Summer Gardens Day 2012 will be hosted by the Hertfordshire Group on Saturday 30 June 2012. We would like to welcome you to four spectacular gardens; all of them have open days for the NGS and one displays features taken from the owners gold award-winning gardens at Chelsea. There will also be plant buying opportunities on the day from excellent local nurseries.
Amongst the four gardens there will be a unique opportunity for a private visit to Tom Stuart-Smith's garden. Tom and his sister Kate are opening their Serge Hill Gardens, including "The Barn", especially for the HPS and Tom has said he will be available that day to talk to us. The Courtyard garden at the entrance is a re-creation of Tom's award winning Chelsea Garden in 2006. Members will also be able to see the new prairie garden in its first season. There is further information about this wonderful garden in the March 2012 issue of the RHS magazine 'the Garden'
We will meet at the Memorial Hall in Wheathampstead, AL4 8AY (map), from 9.00 am for registration and refreshments and leave there by 10.00 am for the gardens. The cost for the day, including coach travel to gardens, entry fees and refreshments will be £24. A quiche and salads lunch plus strawberries with cream will be available at the Hall by advance booking for £7. Other members will open their gardens for informal visits on the Friday and/or Sunday.
Please download and complete the booking form (Word document). This should be returned to Diana Barry, 223 Castle Hill Road, Totternhoe, Beds LU6 2BY, together with the payment of £24 (or £31.00 to include lunch) per member, by 9th April 2012. If you have any queries please contact Diana Barry by email at diana@chilternview.com or phone her on 01525 221133.
