Hardy Plant Society

North East Group

About the Group

We are a friendly, welcoming group and are always happy to receive visitors to our talks who are interested in becoming members, at a small charge of £2. Meetings run from September to May and talks cover a varied range of gardening and plant interest. Refreshments are served after talks where there is an opportunity to buy plants and garden sundries. Meetings commence at 7.15pm in Stannington Village Hall, Near Morpeth, Northumberland NE61 6EL (map)

Our Group has been in existence since 1991. We have a membership of around 140 who receive our local newsletter throughout the year.

During the summer months we visit members’ gardens and enjoy a bus trip to gardens further afield.

Our chairman, Heather Russell, is perhaps better known as the owner of Garden Cottage, Bolam, which she has developed over the past 30 years and regularly opens for group visits.

Being in the North East of England means we are true hardy planters and we have a vast collective knowledge of plants ideally suited to our region that we would be delighted to share with new members.
