About the Group
The Southern Counties Group is an active Group and organises a varied programme of events for its members, who range from fairly new but enthusiastic gardeners to highly experienced ones. We aim to learn, to have fun and to enjoy plants and gardens.
During the winter months (apart from December), there are monthly meetings on Saturday mornings with an illustrated lecture by well-known or local experts. There is usually a sale of plants brought by members, which is an excellent way to get hold of some unusual plants at very reasonable prices and there is always expert advice on hand. Currently we meet at Bookham, Cobham and Mayford, near Woking, Surrey.
From May to September, we arrange visits to gardens, travelling by car, and an annual coach trip to gardens further afield. This year we are also organising a 3-day coach trip to visit gardens in Norfolk.
Our subscription is £3.00 per year for single membership and £4.00 for joint membership (two members at the same address). All members receive the Groups quarterly Newsletter.
The Groups name dates from the time when, as the second HPS Local Group to be established, we did cover the whole of the southern counties. As other groups have come into existence our membership is now drawn mainly from Surrey but members also come from surrounding counties. Wherever you live, we would welcome you as a member.
