About the Group
Our group meets in the Williams Memorial Hall, Main Road, Coychurch, Bridgend CF35 5HD. (map)
The Group was formed in 1989 and it has grown steadily since then. We now have around 120 members primarily from the Cardiff/Swansea areas.
Each year we hold events approximately monthly. These are generally talks from October to April, and garden visits during the warmer months. The talks are held at the Williams Memorial Hall in Coychurch on a weekend afternoon. As well as a speaker, we generally have a plant raffle and teas are available after the talk. Many of the speakers are also nurserymen who bring plants for sale.
A coach is organised for the garden trips, with pick-up points along the M4 corridor. At approximately two year intervals we also arrange a weekend trip away which allows us to travel further afield. At the other extreme, we usually have at least one visit to a local members garden during the year.
We also hold at least one plant sale a year to both allow the spread of more unusual plants and to help generate funds for the group.
We produce two newsletters a year which provide details of the programme for the next six months.
An annual subscription fee is charged for membership of the South Wales Group. The current rate is £3.00 per person. The subscription is due in April each year, and payment after October covers membership for the following year as well. Reminders are sent with the Spring newsletter.
