Reason for Inclusion
Originating from Japan, this plant was a gift to the owner of Cotswold Garden Flowers. A plant was bought from there by HPS Hampshire Group and grown by HPS members since 2007.

Brief description of plant
Clump forming hardy perennial, wintergreen and a tendency to become shrubby.

Height x Spread
30cm x 40cm

Flower spikes bearing many small deep violet-blue flowers, opening from bottom to top of the spike.

Silvery-grey lanceolate leaves.

Flowering Time
Sept - Oct

Soil type
Any well-drained soil.

Full sun

Pests and diseases
Generally no problems.

Needs a period of cool temperatures to initiate flowering so will not start flowering until Sept/Oct continuing until frost. Trim clumps in spring to encourage compact growth.

Semi-ripe cuttings will root easily in gritty compost.
